Leo Boyle and the Largest Pro Bono Effort in History

boyle.jpgIn the upcoming issue of New England Super Lawyers, writer Nick DiUlio profiles cover subject Leo V. Boyle, a personal injury attorney with Meehan, Boyle, Black & Bogdanow in Boston. Boyle was instrumental in the effort to establish Trial Lawyers Care, an organization for which more than 1500 attorneys volunteered their time to represent the victims of 9/11 and their families. TLC became the largest pro bono effort ever.

NYSL11-Dittenhoefer.jpgAs we mentioned previously this week, New York Super Lawyers -- Metro Edition (out at the end of this month) includes a feature about Trial Lawyers Care, the organization of attorneys who offered their legal services for free to those applying to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. For the piece, we spoke with Marc M. Dittenhoefer, partner at Blank, Goolnick & Dittenhoefer, and member of the board of directors of New York State Trial Lawyers Association for the last 15 years, about his involvement with TLC. In this excerpt from the interview in April--a blog exclusive--Dittenhoefer reflects on TLC and the efforts of the attorneys involved.

Stephan H. Peskin remembers his experiences on Sept. 11

With more than 1,100 attorneys taking on cases across the world, TLC became the largest pro bono effort in history. In May, we interviewed Stephan H. Peskin, managing partner at Tolmage, Peskin, Harris, Falick, who was instrumental in helping set up the organization.  Here, in an excerpt from the interview exclusive to the blog, the vice president of TLC recalls his experiences on the day of 9/11 and how he was able to get access to his office after the attacks, despite its location in the red zone.
