A Look Back at September Super Lawyers Magazine Releases

As September passes we wanted to recap some of the editorial subjects for the two magazines released this past month: 2015 New York Metro Super Lawyers Magazine and 2015 Michigan Super Lawyers Magazine. We are also thrilled to announce that 2015 marked the tenth issue of each of these publications.

Pro Bono: Andrew "Duke" Maloney's Five-Year Battle for Glenn Winuk

One of the more touching stories from the latest issue of New York Metro Super Lawyers magazine involves Andrew "Duke" Maloney III's pro bono representation of the family of Holland & Knight partner Glenn Winuk, who died on Sept. 11, 2001. For years, the federal government denied the Winuk family's claim under the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Act, which recognizes volunteer rescue workers who die in the line of duty. The story, "Real Heroes," by Amy Kates, begins this way:

Judge Pollack's Boys: Kavaler, Wang, Chepiga, Seiler, Et al.

Eric J. Seiler of Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman did it from 1982 to 1983; Michael J. Chepiga, of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, from 1979 to 1980. Cahill Gordon & Reindel's Thomas J. Kavaler served a two-year term, from 1972 to 1974, while Foley & Lardner's Peter N. Wang was on board from 1973 to 1974.

Lawyer Links: Gerald Shargel, Kenneth Feinberg and Others on 9/11

Super Lawyers News: Skadden Arps legend Joseph Flom

Malcom Gladwell, author of the The Tipping Point and Blink has a new book, Outliers: The Story Of Success. We particularly enjoyed the chapter, "The Three Lessons of Joe Flom." Flom, as many of you know, is the last living named partner of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, and a perennial name on the New York Metro Super Lawyers list and has been a Top 100 honoree as well. His story is the stuff of legend and Gladwell does his typical expert job telling it.
