More Accolades for Super Lawyers' Journalism

Super Lawyers is perhaps most well-known for our lists, rating attorneys in each state using our patented selection process. But an important part of Super Lawyers is our editorial team, whose hard work regularly produces top-notch features on our selected attorneys, which are included in each issue of Super Lawyers Magazine. Earlier this year, we told you about two awards for which we were considered, and we're thrilled to announce that we've recently received two more.

Super Lawyers Takes a Journalism Award

Congratulations to Minneapolis writer Christy DeSmith for winning a bronze award in the 2012 Society of Professional Journalists contest for best magazine profile in Minnesota in 2011. She won for her vivid portrait of St. Paul attorney Jeffrey Anderson, who's renowned worldwide for his clergy-abuse cases against the Catholic Church, for Minnesota Super Lawyers. Read her award-winning piece here.

Shamus O'Meara Settles Lawsuit on Behalf of Developmentally Disabled Plaintiffs

shamus.jpgMinnesota Public Radio recently reported that attorney Shamus O'Meara of Johnson & Condon has successfully settled a class action suit with the state of Minnesota on behalf of his clients, 300 adults with developmental disabilities who used to reside in a treatment facility in Cambridge, Minn., where they were treated inhumanely.

Jeff Anderson on the Sex Abuse Scandal at Penn State

MNSL11.jpegEarlier this year we featured St. Paul attorney Jeff Anderson of Jeff Anderson & Associates, who has been bringing clergy sex abuse suits against the Catholic Church since 1983, on the cover of Minnesota Super Lawyers. Anderson yesterday filed the first civil suit in the Penn State child sex abuse scandal involving assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. He's representing a 29-year-old man who claims he was abused more than 100 times by the coach between 1992 and 1996. Anderson spoke to us this morning about how he became involved in the case, what these cases say about institutions and us, and when he'll be willing to commend Penn State. Here is an excerpt from that discussion.

Entertainment Lawyer Ken Abdo Strives to be Tom Hagen

Ken-Abdo-5209-RET-web-72dpi.jpgWhen you think entertainment lawyers you usually think New York or Los Angeles, not Minneapolis. But Ken Abdo of Lommen Abdo is changing that. Just ask chart-toppers Adam "Owl City" Young or Jonny Lang. They'll tell you their careers are being handled just fine by the man from 10,000 lakes (and songs).

In the 2011 Issue of Minnesota Super Lawyers

Thumbnail image for MNSLRS11_SM_Cover.jpgIn the latest issue of Minnesota Super Lawyers (available online, digitally, via app, and in magazine form), we profile St. Paul attorney Jeff Anderson of Jeff Anderson & Associates, who has made a career out of bringing sexual-abuse lawsuits against the Catholic Church. He started filing them 27 years ago and, as Christy DeSmith explains, has no plans of stopping now.

Tamara Hjelle Olsen (1960-2011)

Tamara OlsenWe were saddened to learn of the passing of Tamara Hjelle Olsen of Gray Plant Mooty at the age of 51 after a year-long battle with cancer. She had made our Minnesota Super Lawyers list every year since 2003, often appearing on top lists, and had carved out a reputation as being not only one of the most accomplished attorneys in the state--in 2007 she became the firm's first female managing partner--but also one of the most warm. "She was universally recognized as one of the best employment and higher education lawyers, and was a sought-after public speaker," Bruce Mooty told the Star Tribune. "And her clients just loved her. Once clients had work with her, they didn't want to work with anybody else."
